Wall Tents

Wall Tents When it comes to getting the most out of tent investment, one can't strike a wall tent. It's constructed competently, with little to no wasted resources. Unlike other tents, these walled tents yield an entirely useable space. One can sit, visit, and live without confining walls and hundreds of miles of guy lines. Wall Tents are just simple, classic, great wilderness tents. They are the tents of choice for most native people living in the bush today.

History of wall tents
Wall tents have been in use for a very long time. Paintings from 1544 show open-faced wall tents standing with pavilions and wedges. A model of a tent dated to the mid-17th century, and profusely decorated with taped seams outside and fully embroidered inside, stands in a European museum. There are drawings of wall tents being used in military settings, which date back to 1740. A sketch brought back from England shows a wall tent with overhanging eaves dating from 1780. An expedition of 1819 was recorded in paintings, which show the tent in use, and numerous other paintings confirm its continual use throughout the 19th century. It can be said that wall tent has never gone out of style, it appears in all the books of the early part of this century and is still in use for guided hunting trips.

The Construction
All wall tents are built to stand with any pole configuration. A wall tent can be suspended from an exterior ridge pole or rope. With grommets or loops, along the suspended eaves, one can be positive that the tent won't collapse. Interior pole systems work great if one has the room to carry carefully sized and shaped poles. All seams are sewn flat felled for incredible strength, there are no raw edges, and everything that could wear is reinforced. Addition of a second door is highly recommended by experts in these tents, which allows them to ventilate more efficiently on a hot day giving you the coolest place in camp.

Advantages of Wall Tents
Wall tents offer taller walls, peaks, or both. These tents can be made wider or longer to suit individual requirements. Wall tents have been popular because they are very efficient use of material for the space provided, are easy to transport, quick to set up, and ensure a dry, trouble free, comfortable camp. Some of these tents also include overhanging eaves to shed water away from the walls, overlapping doors to discourage wind-blown rain from entering, and an internal mud flap to further ensure against weather entering from beneath the walls.

A good wall tent comes with two doors, stove jack, sod cloth, ropes with tensioners, canvas storage bags and have following features:
  • Fabric that is pre-shrunk and treated with sun forger to make it water repellant and mildew resistant.
  • The seams are folded and double stitched with a lock stitch machine.
  • All reinforcement patches are angled and match up evenly with adjoining patches.
  • The grommets are rolled-rim spur grommets.
  • Each grommet is individually reinforced with webbing to increase strength.
  • The eave of the tent is stitched down to the wall between grommets to insure proper drainage
Hunters and Campers who spend a lot of time in the backcountry know that a quality wall tent is the foundation for a comfortable camp and successful trip. Wall Tents are the perfect home away from home. Long preferred by outfitters who want a stable base camp, they are quickly becoming the choice of more and more sportsmen who realize a tent is more than a place to sleep.
