Camping Tents

Camping Tents Camping Tents suit individual needs of both recreational and alpine campers. A quality camping tent provides with that indispensable protection from the elements, with its wind and waterproof outer sheath. Mostly, camping tents are easy to pitch, convenient to store and lightweight enough to carry in packs day after day. These tents come in a huge range of style, size and designs, including one-man, two-man, three-man, four-man and four-man plus tents, dome tents, bivis, bothys etc.

Some tents have extra amenities to make the camping trip more enjoyable. These include awnings, screened porch areas, connection tunnels and multiple rooms. Such camping tents are ideal for families.

Campers have many choices in selecting a tent or shelter that will meet a variety of needs. Camping tents are offered in cabins, domes and other geometric shapes that provide many storage and comfort options. There are three basic camping tent designs:

Dome Tent
The dome tent provides a good deal of floor space and is extremely sturdy in harsh weather. Depending on the size of the dome tent there is usually a good deal of headspace but not as much as the cabin tent. There are two types of dome tents, the tunnel or half dome, which is great for backpackers or those traveling light, and the classic geodesic dome.

Cabin Tent
The cabin tent is common with families who need or want a lot of space for people and equipment. The cabin tent has a lot of headroom throughout and has vertical walls.

A-Frame Tents
The A-Frame tents are two walls that form a triangle with the ground. The A-Frame is easy to pitch. One can easily create an A-Frame tent with simply a line tied between two trees and a tarp draped over the line and staked out. This type of tent is is not suitable for more than two campers.

The tent one chooses will probably be the most important piece of gear that one will buy. A good tent will result in sound sleeps at night without needing to worry about rain, wind, bugs or other creatures of the night. There are no rules to buy a tent with quality fabric for both comfort and durability, but one must follow general guidelines and look for:

Lightweight - Camping Tents should be made of strong, lightweight fabrics and pole technology to ease set up time and lightens load.

Quick Set Up - Quick clips, pole sleeves and logical designs make set up fast and easy, even in the dark.

Organization - A tent should come with internal storage pockets, organizer walls and gear-loft loops to make it easy for even the largest family to stay organized.

Ample Living Space - They should be configured to take maximum advantage of available living space.

Ventilation - Each mesh panel or fly vent must be strategically placed for maximum ventilation and should easily open to let air circulate.

Weather Protection - The tent should not sag in wet weather and provide excellent UV protection in sun.

Camping Tent Fabric
Traditional camping tents that one might find are usually made from a polyester/cotton blend or even waterproof poplin. These tents are not recommended specially if one plan to camp during the summer as such cheaper fabrics just do not allow adequate air to flow through the tent. The camping tent fabric should always be made of a tough waterproof fabric. In general, tents made of nylon are waterproofed with polyurethane or polyurethane and silicone coatings. Quality fabric for camping tents is also mildew resistant and fire retardant.
